Lucy update
After a lot of deliberation, we decided to get bring Lucy back home. We weren't having much luck finding her a home and we couldn't imagine her going into the "puppy system" where we might not ever know where she ended up or if she even got placed with a family at all. We talked with some friends and family that had been through the same thing with their dogs when children were brought into the family and with a lot of hard work, their dogs are still a part of their families. We know it will be work on both Lucy's and our parts but we are willing to do what it takes. We know that what happened was really out of Lucy's character but it still doesn't make it okay. We just know that we can correct this recent bad behavior. She had just better be very thankful she's back home and not give us a reason to regret our decision. For now, we are keeping baby gates up to keep her and Gentry separated but not keep Lucy locked up in her kennel. We've taken Gentry in to see her and she acts as if nothing ever happened. She has licked his hands like she used to, he has given her treats and she is still as gentle as she ever was when taking it from his little hands and he even took toys from her basket and she acted like she couldn't care less. She is definitely fitting right back in as last night after Gentry had gone to bed, we let her into the living room. Brian and I were in the office and we heard her whining. I thought maybe she wanted her treats on the counter but Brian looked out and saw a very familiar sight. Each Christmas I hang our stockings on hooks on one of our shelves. For Lucy's first Christmas with us we had hers filled with lots of goodies and she knew right where it was at. We even have a video from her first Christmas with us running right out of our room and down the hall to her stocking on Chrismas morning, just like a kid. Every year since, when we hang them up she whines and whines and whines for her stocking and we usually have to take them down because we can't take her sad whining any longer. Since Gentry's adorable stocking came in this week I couldn't resist hanging it up. I also hung up the rest of ours to go with it. Well, she found them. I am determined not to take them down this year so she is just going to have to get over it. I just couldn't help but think what we would have missed out on this Christmas when she might not have been here to get her stocking. Please say a prayer for us that this works out!
